Article from my Japanese music blog called Japan Music Corner
Ayaka is one of my favourite J-Pop singers. In her latest album she sings covers from past Japanese pop songs in her new album called YU-ON CLUB-1st grade.
Japan Music Corner’s Purpose:
I want to popularize Japanese music — J-pop, enka, and jazz etc., to the world. International music of all types have little exposure in this country because the music industry only plays and promotes American popular music. Japan Music Corner believes in music equality — the understanding and appreciation of all music. Our goal is to present good Japanese music.
My first exposure to J-pop was listening to early J-pop stars like Hiromi Iwasaki, Anne Lewis, and Seiko Matsuda from a Japan home stay guest. Japan Music Corner articles will highlight the talented independent performers.
J-pop music is very broad genre that incorporates American popular music such as rock, hip hop, rap,and jazz, as well as, euro-dance, and Japanese music. It is usually more upbeat and also emphasizes the beat or the harmony rather than the lyrics. J-pop is much different that American popular music but with an open mind you can appreciate it.
